University of Washington Tacoma’s Career Development & Education

I started with Career Development & Education in 2017 as their Career Prep Consultant, where I helped students 1:1 with their resumes and cover letters, provided tips on practicing for interviews, and assisted with researching for internships and jobs. While in this role, I noticed many of Career Development’s resources were not being utilized. I decided to create marketing materials for Career Development to build student awareness. I began drafting flyers, created Career Development’s Instagram account, and started pop-ups on campus to engage with students. As we began seeing more student traffic, I proposed that a Marketing role was vital to Career Development. With that, I became Career Development’s 1st Marketing Assistant, and continued my efforts to increase student traffic and Career Development’s brand awareness for the last two years of my university experience.

Marketing Deliverable

Before I graduated, I was required by my office to create a marketing deliverable to showcase the work I’ve done for the last 2-3 years. I created this deliverable to be a reference for future Marketing Assistants. I began with a letter of introduction and shared how this personal endeavor became the vital role it is now. I continued with sharing marketing strategies, social media campaigns I’ve done, and data I’ve collected throughout the years, showing the significance the position has made to Career Development and the students. This includes student attendance, social media analytics, and surveys I’ve conducted that analyzed student’s professional development and their experiences from Career Development’s career fairs.

This presentation highlights two surveys that I conducted at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year - student feedback from the Fall Career Fair and an in depth perspective of students’ professional development at UW Tacoma. I also provided a recap of Career Development’s events, social media, and Handshake from Fall Quarter, and concluded the presentation by sharing some marketing strategies I plan to do for Winter 2020.

This presentation is an accumulation of my work during my first year as Career Development’s Marketing Assistant which includes the events Career Development hosted, social media, Handshake, and my plans for the 2019 - 2020 school year.
