Spanish Language and Culture

In this study abroad program, I spent half of the summer of 2018 in Quito, Ecuador where we had to immerse ourselves with the Ecuadorian culture and lifestyle. This included living with a host family, visiting remarkable landmarks and museums to learn about their history, attending a Spanish speaking school, and navigating a day-to-day activities. At the end of this program, we had to turn in a reflection paper based on our travel journal and a personal interview reflection.

Prior to this trip, we had to write a goal that we wanted to accomplish while we were in Ecuador. My goal was to be more comfortable speaking Spanish because in class I would overthink or be too shy to speak. However, in Ecuador I definitely challenged myself, especially at my host family’s home, at school, at markets, using public transportation, and talking to the locals.
